We’re looking for a Part-Time 3D Printer Technician with experience in FDM and resin printing, laser operation, and design software to join our crew and help customers bring their ideas to reality.
Job Summary
As a 3D Printer Technician at the Fabrication Bay, you’ll manage and operate a range of fabrication equipment, including Phrozen resin printers, Bambu FDM printers, and CO2 and fiber lasers. Your role will include maintaining the machines, troubleshooting issues, and working directly with customers to assist them with their projects. You’ll also work with Adobe Illustrator or similar software for design and prep work, ensuring files are print-ready for both 3D printing and laser cutting. This is a perfect position for a tech-savvy individual with hands-on 3D printing experience and a passion for fabrication technology.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain 3D printers: Handle Phrozen resin printers and Bambu FDM printers, including setting up print jobs, maintaining machines, and troubleshooting.
- Operate CO2 and fiber lasers: Set up, calibrate, and run laser cutting/engraving jobs on various materials.
- Prepare print and laser jobs: Use Adobe Illustrator or other design software to prepare customer files for 3D printing or laser cutting.
- Perform post-processing on 3D prints (removing supports, sanding, cleaning resin prints, etc.) and finish laser-cut projects.
- Provide customer support: Assist guests with file preparation, material choices, and troubleshooting their designs.
- Maintain cleanliness, order, and safety in the Fabrication Bay, ensuring all equipment is in top working condition.
- Monitor multiple print and laser jobs simultaneously and prioritize tasks efficiently.
- Stay updated on industry trends and innovations in 3D printing, laser technology, and fabrication techniques.
- Educate customers on the equipment’s capabilities, processes, and safety guidelines.
- Restock materials (filaments, resin, engraving materials) and assist with inventory management.
Qualifications
- Experience with FDM and resin 3D printing: Strong knowledge of Bambu and Phrozen printers preferred.
- Laser cutting experience: Familiarity with CO2 and fiber lasers and materials such as acrylic, wood, and metals.
- Proficiency with Adobe Illustrator (or similar vector-based design software) for creating and prepping files.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to maintain and repair 3D printers and lasers.
- A keen eye for detail and focus on quality control to ensure prints and laser-cut items meet high standards.
- Ability to handle multiple projects at once and work efficiently in a busy, fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication skills with a strong customer service orientation.
- Knowledge of 3D modeling and slicing software (e.g., Cura, PrusaSlicer, Chitubox).
- Prior experience in a makerspace, fab lab, or similar environment is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with file formats like STL, OBJ, and SVG.
- Enthusiasm for learning new technologies and a passion for the maker and DIY culture.
